Halong Bay is largely considered to be the “eighth wonder of the world.” Ha Long Bay, which means “Descending Dragon” Bay in Vietnamese, is composed of over 2,000 islets, caves, and karsts. It extends from the Gulf of Tonkin in Northeastern Vietnam, stretching over approximately 965 miles. Halong Bay is admittedly touristy, so don’t miss to visit Halong when you are in Vietnam. You’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views as you cruise around the sandstone islands and islets.
Halong Bay is a four-hour drive from the capital city of Hanoi by. You can book tours with Travel agency that include transportation, food and cruising through the islands. The trip to Halong Bay can be do in a day, but we recommend taking two days or three days cruise to fully enjoy the splendor of the archipelago.
The popular attractions along the cruise include stops at Ti Top Island and Sung Sot Cave. Ti Top Island has a small beach and a hike to the top of the hill that offers great 360-degree views of the surrounding bay. Sung Sot Cave is another popular stop that features a marvelous cave system atop one of the limestone cliffs. Also the cruise includes kayaking or a stop at the amazing floating villages. Other must-see landmark as Dau Go Cave, and Luon Cave, where you can spot dozens of macaques.
Standing on sundeck of cruise, the sun warming your skin, wind blowing through your hair and admire the panoramic view of gigantic limestone islets, thriving flora, green waters, and ships boasting the red and yellow Vietnamese flag. Close your eyes, breathing in the fresh air, and was quite sure you will find paradise.
There are dozens of activities offered here, such as squid fishing, swimming, hiking, kayaking, and, if you’re brave enough, rock climbing. I opted to go kayaking at night, which retrospectively wasn’t the safest thing to do, but clumsily slamming into the islets was surprisingly fun. All in all, Ha Long Bay offers some of the most unique views and experiences a traveler can experience.
