History
Bai Tho Mountain has been an important location for Vietnamese residents for centuries. The mountain was originally the site of a lighthouse which helped fishermen and seamen watch for the coast. For this reason, the mountain’s original name was Truyen Dang. In 1468, King Le Thanh Tong wrote a poem on the side of the mountain praising its peace and beauty. In the 1700’s, another poem was carved on the side of the mountain by Lord Trinh Cuong. After several more poems were added to the mountain, the name was changed to “Poem Mountain”, or Bai Tho Mountain.
